It is easy in the transition from spring to summer to feel the need to update your child’s wardrobe, because lets face it, we love it when our kids look cute! But sometimes, it feels like back-to-school shopping because the spending never ends. Really, all your kids need are a few simple and versatile new pieces to create that summer wardrobe!

Start with the tops. A few new solid colored shirts and maybe a jean jacket can be mixed up to create tons of new looks that never go out of style! Instead of the flashy, blinged-out butterfly top, opt for the colorful V-neck or the simple nautical stripes. These styles tend to stay trendy, and can be layered during the colder months so you won’t have any regrets.

With the bottoms, grab a few new pairs of basic colored shorts and a skirt!  Kids usually opt for comfort first, so to be sure you’re not wasting any dollars, find clothes that are both cute and comfy!

The last items that are key to updating are accessories: shoes, headbands, bracelets, etc. Sometimes it is better to invest in a few of these smaller items that can change a whole outfit completely! Inexpensive and easy to find, accessories are a smart avenue for the keen parent.

Ever find yourself fawning over pictures of your loved ones, but can’t seem to figure out what to do with them? Framing is not your only option. Here are some fun ideas to change up your regular decor! Hang up a yard or two of twine, and then hang your printed pictures from it with clothes pins. Easy and stylish, this is a creative way to display your pictures, and is also a very useful setup if you like to update your photos often! Another creative way to display your pictures is by transferring them to wood. There are many tutorials for this idea all over the web, and it is an easy DIY that is worth the short time it takes to create. This aged beachy look is a smart way to hang up the classics, and a fresh idea that is perfect for updating your house.

With summer months up and coming, it is the most popular time to have family reunions.  Sometimes you’ll have an official reunion, and other times, families gather for graduations, weddings, and vacations.  Regardless of the reason for the get together, make time during your reunion to take lots of family photos.

One really special photo you won’t want to miss is often called the “generational photo”.  This is the photo that includes as many generations that are still living, from Great Grandma, down to the new born baby in the family.  It can be a rare and special photo not only for you but especially for the children in the photo.  As the years pass, and the people in the photo are no longer around, the meaning of the photo becomes invaluable!

In our digital age, some feel we are quickly losing our ability to have strong relationships with other people.  Without having a connection with others, whether it be your kids, your neighbor or the checker at the grocery store, we can lose our sense of self.  Here are 3 things you can do today with those around you to create a connection for both you and for them.

1.  Notice others.  If it’s your kid, notice what color socks they are wearing and tell them.  Notice your neighbor got his car washed, notice the checker at the grocery store seems happy today.  People need attention and by just sharing that you “noticed” something about them will make both you and them feel good.  And you may be surprised how it gets them talking!

2.  Listen.  Turn all your gadgets off and just be there for someone.  Really listen to what they have to say and try to think how it makes them feel.  Don’t be too quick to offer advice unless it’s asked for.  Most people just want to be heard, not told.

3.  Make their day.  This is a fantastic way to really connect with others. Find what makes others smile, laugh, or just feel good.  Then repeat day after day.
